I was not one of the millions who watched Obamas state of the union last night, but I did readthe state of the union soon afterwards. It was inspiring, but some of the policy insight was depressingly conventional. Instead of bitching, I'll offer some of my thoughts on redeveloping our nation. I like to focuss on my local situation, and how I can make the deepest impact, while remaining local and small. as I develop my business ideas and aspirations, I keep this in mind.
When redeveloping a house, a new community focus must be kept in mind. Development for walking to services and work. Development for inter-generational living. development with passive solar planning. development for education to mix with community surrounding school campuses. develop a new systems relationship between education and industry. development for locally sourced and built goods/fixing services. Development for terrestrial wireless gateway technology in the building system of each redeveloped structure.
This last one is something I want to focus on explaining a little more. It has been hiding out in the recesses of my brain for a while and it needs some attention.
Plumbob.org has now been hovering on the first page of a Google search for 'plumbob', for several months. I do not know completely what this means, but I do have some clues.
I have been moderately active on this site since I started it.and have been developing my vision for what can most simply be described as(but possibly missing the mark) an open source passive solar community. The regular addition of content on a site is, I think, a favorable metric for the google algorithm. Beyond that, In the last 5 years I have learned enough about the internet to find the Drupal community and got to know the tools enough to run this website, however shittily. So Drupal is the most likely reason why plumbob is on the first page.
Coincidentally, I really dig the 5th place site, onionflats.com/PLUMBOB
Last week I moved this site to a new hosting service called A2hosting. I didn't really have many problems with Bluehost, but I've read so many bad things about it, I thought I would consider myself lucky and move on. There wasn't much written about A2 one way or another, but the little I did read was positive and they tout themselves as being 'green' hosting providers, and that is good!
This week I am reaching the hundredth node mark on this site. Every piece of content on this site is considered a 'node' by the core Drupal software. If that explanation is not enough for you, check here, or don't worry about it, it doesn't matter. To humans, content is images, words, sounds, etc. I feel like I am starting to hit my stride with blogging as I understand it's potential and meaning more and more. This is very different from the media consumption I am surrounded by. The internet is about participation and control by the many. Next week I'll be blogging from a technology summit in Oakland, California focusing on the non-profit sector's use of technology.
