It is my understanding that we are a public figure more than we are private. Things in our private lives such as partying can effect our teaching certificate status.
We are legally required to report on any abuse to a child whether we hear about it or see. We are 100 percent responsible for the kids while school is in session. We have to be careful to pay close attention to where kids are and why. Documentation is extremely important especially in the case of fights or physical contact of any kind with kids. Although sometimes illegal at some schools, we have to just be hyper aware of coming in casual contact with students if that is something we choose to do. I personally enjoy high fives and hugs with my students, but as long as I am consistent and do not discriminate for any reason, I feel like I can safely maintain this as part of my teaching style.
